When I think of Y2K, I think of a much simpler time. Other than AOL there was no social media or streaming services. Communication was made via pagers and in the year 2000 I got my first cell phone (which was teal and by Nokia). I listened to music by going to the local mall and purchasing CDS or I downloaded songs on Napster and Limewire and made my own playlists. Friday nights that I didn’t spend at a football game or a house party, I spent hanging out at the mall. During this time, I transitioned away from my preppy Abecrombie & Fitch style to more trendy pieces that I found at Contempo Casuals, Wet Seal, Express, and Rave. I’d also get the Delia*s catalog in the mail and I’d promptly circle just about everything in it. With the reemergence of Y2K trends extending far beyond clothing and accessories, I thought back to how I used to decorate my childhood bedroom. There were bright neon colors, daisy accents, a lip shaped phone, and glitter picture frames with Spencer Gifts and Pottery Barn Teen being my favorites. Inspired by one of my favorite time periods, I selected 27 home decor pieces that have a more grown up feel which I’d (without a question) display in my apartment today.
