Plaid in The City

One of the things I love about New York in the winter time is the chance to wear (and purchase) warmer clothing. I look forward to a break from the typical warm L.A. weather and an opportunity to switch up my style. Before I took off for the East Coast, I was searching for the quintessential winter coat. I went to several stores and placed multiple online orders in a variety of styles and ended up returning them all. On the day before I left, my last hope arrived—an oversized plaid double breasted wool coat from Tommy Hilfiger. I paused in front of my mirror thinking, pleasssse let this fit! I ended up falling in love; it was the classic New York style winter coat I had been longing for. When I was gathering my accessories, I came across a maroon beanie and a navy scarf that matched perfectly. This coat ended up being ideal for several looks and kept me warm at the same time.

With the coat being navy and maroon plaid, it worried me I would have an issue pairing it with my clothing. Luckily it wasn’t a problem. During the winter months I gravitate more towards darker hues which blend smoothly. To do some sightseeing, I combined it with an oversized gray sweater, dark gray jeans, black velvet thigh-high boots, and a small black cross-body that was an early Christmas present from my parents. When it came to choosing jewelry, I opted for silver because it integrated well with my gray sweater. I headed to Bryant Park, Rockefeller Center, and Times Square and while the temperatures dropped during the evening, I stayed warm.

On my birthday (which was a lot colder than the other days), my boyfriend, family and I walked around the Upper East Side, and shopped on Fifth Avenue, and Madison. Before I left I planned my Birthday outfit. I purchased a white jumper (an XL for an oversized fit), black liquid leggings, and combined them with my maroon beanie (similar here) and navy scarf. When it came to making Christmas my wish list, one of my must haves were white booties. I ended up ordering a pair from Macy’s so I could where them while I was in NYC. To tie the look together, I accessorized with gold jewelry and my go-to snake embossed gray Carlyle Tote from Bendel’s.

As Christmas Eve approached, my mom made a reservation at Cipriani for dinner which meant I needed something dressy to wear. I came across an ad for a black and silver sparkly striped dress on Gap where I typically get my basics—like workout clothing and t-shirts. The a-line silhouette hit my mid thigh, so I paired it with velvet thigh-high boots, a small black purse, and a navy scarf. To accentuate the look I choose silver jewelry to match the silver stripes in the fabric.
