What It’s Like Having a Vitamin IV Infusion (at Home) via Wlnss

I’ve never been one to shy away from a wellness treatment that has the potential to enhance my overall sense of well-being. When I was given the opportunity to try an at home IV infusion from Wlnss, I jumped at the chance. In the past I’ve had a few B12 shots, but those were nothing compared to having potent vitamins enter directly through my bloodstream. These past few weeks, I’ve been doing more cardio and lifting, and on top of that, I’ve been super busy and not drinking as much water as I should. So getting a vitamin drip couldn’t have come at a better time.

From downloading the app, to setting up my appointment, I couldn’t believe how easy the process was. After you create an account, you can book one of the four services Wlnss offers: IV infusion therapy, acupuncture, cupping, or booster shots. I scrolled through the six IV infusion therapy options (Glow, Detox, Recover, Sculpt, Protect, and Hydrate), and after careful consideration, I went with Recover. I felt like it had exactly what I needed—a 1000mL bag of essential vitamins, electrolytes, anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea and non-opioid pain relievers. Another benefit is that it’s made with high quality ingredients, and it’s vegan, gluten-free and organic! This was a huge plus for me because I won’t put any animal products into my body.

I love how the app allowed me to customize my treatment. While you’re booking your appointment you can add extras like booster shots or an extra bag of saline. Then all you have to do is enter your address and credit card info, choose a date and time, and you’re done. Now, you just wait for a registered nurse who’s affiliated with UCLA or USC to show up.

What really drew me to Wlnss was the convenience of being able to have the IV infusion administered in my home, as opposed to having to sit in an office and wait. The day I ordered the drip was a hectic day for me, and if I had booked an appointment somewhere, I probably would have had to cancel because I was nearing a deadline. Instead, a nurse showed up, set up the drip, and I got to work editing a blog post.

IV infusion, a step-by-step guide

I was eager to begin my treatment because that morning I woke up with a picky throat, and my back was aching from my intense workout the night before. My objective was to feel better and not have any discomfort. From the painless IV insertion to the removal, the process took around 45 minutes. After the nurse arrived, he took my vitals and had me sign a consent form on the app. He proceeded to ask me a few questions like if I was I allergic to any medications and would I be okay with being administered Zofran and Pepcid. Then I asked him some questions and learned some interesting facts:

  • Pretty much anyone can benefit from IV infusion therapy (even pregnant women as long as no medication is used).
  • They are full of vitamins and work wonders if you have a hangover. They replenish all the fluids lost and correct electrolyte imbalances.
  • If you’re looking for a way to enhance your skin tone, an IV drip can brighten your complexion, stimulate collagen production, help fight wrinkles, and other telltale signs of aging. (A huge benefit for me since I’m big on skincare.)
  • If you’re seeking a natural approach to alleviate stress, accelerate recovery, rid your body of toxins and stabilize your hormones, receiving an IV infusion will help accelerate the process.
  • They’re wonderful for pre-travel and post travel because they boost immunity and help fight jet lag.

The most significant thing I learned is that when you take supplements by mouth, they have to pass through your esophagus and small intestines. This means they don’t get absorbed the way they do when they enter directly through your bloodstream. I have so many bottles of vitamins sitting on my countertop I could practically open up a store. Having this knowledge has made me rethink my outlook on supplements and think about all the money I’ve thrown away over the years all in the name of health and beauty.

After my IV infusion I felt amazing. The back pain and sore throat I woke up with went away, and to my surprise I ended up losing 3 pounds the following week. Being a curious person, I did some research and found that vitamin deficiencies can contribute to stress which can cause weight gain. I’ve been trying to lose a few pounds, and I felt like I was killin’ it in the gym and eating all the right foods (while avoiding the wrong ones), but I still wasn’t losing as much weight as I wanted. I learned that when you go extra hard while working out and you cut your calories, it can cause your energy levels to drop and that can make losing weight even more of a challenge. An IV infusion drip helps replenish your body which can speed up your metabolism.

Some other positive changes I noticed was that I had so much more energy—I actually needed a lot less sleep. My complexion appeared brighter, and my mind was more focused. Because of how great I felt, this is something I’m going to work into my schedule a few times a month. I’m also going to use Wlnss for Acupuncture and Cupping—two forms of traditional Chinese medicine that I’ve been dying to try!
